The Fourth Dimension
by David (Paul) Yonggi Cho

For those of you who do not know, David (aka Paul) Yonggi Cho is pastor of a 750,000 member church in Seoul, Korea, the largest church in history. And for those of you who do not know, there is currently a major Spirit-filled revival sweeping Korea, Japan and the 10/40 Window, in which Cho's ministry and message has played a critical role. While the West has slowly grown to appreciate the charismatic approach through ministries such as the Vineyard, Cho's biblically sound and Christ-centric message has long been the impetus of a charismatic revival sweeping non-Western nations. Even the staunchly anti-Christian nation of Japan has seen significant in-roads made for real revival, and those in the know realize this is only the beginning. I encourage you to open your eyes and see the exciting, life-changing things the Lord is doing around the world at this very moment.

Okay, so that's an intro to Yonggi Cho, (also) author of The Fourth Dimension, in which he exhorts believers everywhere to tap into their Christ-given rights to enter into a dynamic relationship with God through the ever-present Holy Spirit. Cho's message in Fourth Dimension not only lives up to my personal biblical and theological criteria, but easily surpasses them in terms of applying a living faith. There is much to be had here for those desiring a more intimate walk with the Holy Spirit.

The Case For Christ
by Lee Strobel

Former legal editor for the Chicago Tribune Lee Strobel was an avowed atheist. In Case For Christ he set his investigative skills to work in an attempt to prove the Gospels unreliable in their portrayal of Jesus. Using proven investigative techniques applied in court cases throughout the country, Strobel interviews thirteen scholars in the fields of biblical texts, theology, archaeology and psychology. He confronts each with well-researched and sharply aimed questions striking at the core of the Gospels' accuracy and reliability. This book consists of these thirteen interviews and their amazing outcome. By the end of Strobel's investigation, he had become convinced in the reliability of the Gospels and gave his life to Jesus.

This book is highly readable and engaging, and gets an enthusiastic thumbs up from TheologyWebsite. Each chapter is literally chocked-full of point-counterpoint progression and even hardened veterans of apologetics are likely to learn something significant here.

Global Philosophy of Religion: A short introduction
by Joseph Runzo

Even before picking this book up, the title had me thinking. To set for a Global Anything in 264 pages is a daunting task. And what exactly is a "Global Philosophy of Religion"? Would a Global Philosophy attempt to reduce all non-global philosophies into a single universal system? History has shown that such attempts fail at meaningfulness. Would such a Global Philosophy strive to delineate a meta-philosophy incorporating all non-global philosophies intact, under a new universal understanding? This would truly be an accomplishment, since to do so would in many cases require the circumvention of logic. What then is a Global Philosophy of Religion? Desiring to know more, I opened the book.

Joseph Runzo has published several titles dealing with specific topics in relation to comparative religions. A brief search of Amazon will bring up titles by Runzo such as The Meaning of Life in the World Religion, Ethics In The World Religions, Human Rights and Responsibilities in World Religions, and Love, Sex, and Gender in the World Religions, to name a few. These works approach World Religions in a comparative manner, seeking insight into a particular topic by comparing and contrasting each religion's treatment of the given topic. In Global Philosophy of Religion Runzo similarly approaches the topic of Philosophy of Religion through the various perpectives of the world's Religions. Runzo is often categorized a pluralist due to the seriousness in which he approaches and understands various religion's convictions. His approach in Global Philosophy of Religion is no different, placing side by side Eastern and Western religious world views.

A Concise Encyclopedia of the Philosophy of Religion
by Anthony C. Thiselton

Thiselton's most recent work is a compendium of his insights into major figures and trends within contemporary hermeneutical, theological and philosophical thought. And students of these contemporary issues will not be disappointed with the timeliness and depth of the topics covered. A Concise Encyclopedia of the Philosophy of Religion is precisely that; an encyclopedia containing over 300 entries and sub-entries relevant to any informed discussion of philosophy of religion. In addition to the classic figures generally present in such discussions, Thiselton brings to the table all those others who are just as relevant to contemporary readers. Although it is more than tempting to list all the names covered by Thiselton, I will list only a few I was quick to lookup: Austin, Ayer, Barthes, Bergson, Chisholm, Derrida, Hartshorne, Henry, Husserl, Levinas, Malcolm, Plantinga, Quine, Swinburne, Whitehead, and Wolterstorff.

Philosophy and Religion: From Plato to Postmodernism
by M. J. Charlesworth

First published in 1972, this work underwent a substantial revision in 2002 by the original author. A comparison of the two versions provides a very informative overview of the changes having taken place in the field of religious philosophy over this 30 year period. First, the formerly prominent inclination toward a universal theology of religions has been displaced by recognition of a plurality of theologies. Thus talk of Otto's "the Numinous", Durkheim's "the Sacred" and Tillich's "unconditional concern" must now make way for radical plurality and diversity. Second, this move from universal to particular requires the academic input of the social sciences, anthropology, psychology and history in order to adequately understand particular theologies. This greatly expands and thereby complicates, though for the better, the study of religious systems. Third, there has recently emerged a new way of doing philosophy, often over-generalized under the term 'post-modernity', which emphasizes the 'constructive' role cultures, especially those of the West, play in the formation of the primary religio-philosophical ideas and worldview. Thus this new approach, led by thinkers such a Nietzsche, Heidegger and Derrida calls for a 'deconstruction' of the established (Western) philosophical and metaphysical presuppositions. Such deconstruction allows newer, more adequate (re)formulations whereby previously unvoiced concerns (by, for example, women, minorities, etc) play a role. Charlesworth breaks down his discussion into what he sees as the "five main conceptions of the nature and scope of philosophy or religion". By this is meant that history has predominantly viewed philosophy as belonging to one of these five conceived roles. These five roles constitute a 'grid' upon which most varieties of philosophy of religion may be located. The entire work is structured around these five perspectives, each of which is substantially described in the five sections constituting the book.

No One Like Him: The Doctrine of God (Foundations of Evangelical Theology series)
No One Like Him is the most comprehensive and contemporary work currently available in Evangelical (systematic) theology proper. The author, Dr John Feinberg, Chairman and Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (and my doctoral advisor), not only brings readers into contact with the core historical positions grounding evangelical theology, but significantly emphasizes more contemporary questions within evangelical theology including the perspectives of divine temporality and process theology, both issues regarding which Feinberg has published major previous works. This may very well be the most thorough and current work dealing with the increasingly popular Process Theology from an Evangelical Perspective. This massive 800 page theology text treats thoroughly the 'Being and Nature of God' and 'Acts of God', as well as humanity's 'Concepts of God' wherein trends in contemporary **thought** are analysed and evaluated. If you want to swim in the deep end with a trusted instructor, I thoroughly recommend this text. This volume is one of 10 planned for the 'Foundations of Evangelical Theology' series. Future contributing authors will include Bruce Demarest, David C Clark, Kevin Van Hoozer, and Walter Kaiser. Happy reading. Happy Learning. Happy thinking.

Contemporary Perspectives on Religious Epistemology
Contemporary Perspectives on Religious Epistemology offers you an unparalleled objective treatment of six major religious epistemologies. For each of the six epistemologies, the editors, Geivett and Sweetman, invite four leading authors to debate the strengths and weaknesses of each position. In each case, three authors present arguments for and the fourth against the epistemology in question. The scholar arguing against the position will have had the benefit of reading the others' arguments before he responds, so the arguments are aimed very precisely. In this manner, you are given a varied perspective and argument style for each of the positions. This avoids the all-too-often disadvantage of reading a text chock-full of the single author's perspectival and experiential limitations. Contemporary Perspectives provides you with four insightful and scholarly opinions on the epistemology in question. In all, the book contains 24 articles by as many authors. Including such strellar figures at Alvin Plantinga, Nicholas Wolterstorff, William Lane Craig, Richard Swinburne, William Alston, and John Hick.

Origin Of The Human Species
by Dennis Bonnette, PhD
Is belief in the historical reality of Adam and Eve still reasonable in a modern culture which views human origins in terms of gradual evolution over millions of years from hairy primitive primates? Does sound science conflict with the Biblical story of human origins? Do the genealogies of Genesis require belief that true man is only six thousand years old, or are they compatible with much longer time spans? Does modern science and sound reasoning still permit reasonable belief that life, especially intelligent life, exists only on Earth? Do modern ape-language studies undermine belief that man possesses a spiritual soul and is essentially superior to brute animals? Is there possibly credible evidence casting reasonable doubt on human evolution’s present theory? Origin of the Human Species explores these and other intriguing questions, offering novel solutions to vexing problems.

REVELATION: NIV Application Commentary
This book offers a "new" approach by focusing on the "old." In order to understand this fascinating book, it claims, we must focus on its "ancient rather than modern" background. In focusing on Revelation's message to its original audience, the author does not deny the genre of the book (apocalyptic), its purpose (prophecy), its method (use of symbols), or its message for readers today (God's awesome majesty and control). On the contrary, he affirms the value of all previous approaches- idealistic, historical, preterist, futurist-in understanding the message of this book, or at least certain aspects of it.
