THREE VIEWS ON CREATION AND EVOLUTION
Christian Scholars Debate What Really Happened "In The Beginning"
The Counterpoints series, published by Zondervan Publishing House, furthers
the great debate canonized in American folklore by the 1925 "Monkey Trial,"
Tennessee vs. John Scopes and recently brought back to life by the Kansas
State School Board's recent decision to remove questions about evolution
from its academic assesment tests: did God create the universe as we know it
in six days, or did evolutionary processes bring about life over billions of
years?
This time, however, there are three answers, and they are all given by
Christians.
In THREE VIEWS ON CREATION AND EVOLUTION, General Editors J.P. Moreland and
John Mark Reynolds bring together the leading proponents of the young earth
creationism, old earth creationism, and fully gifted creation (theistic
evolution) views to present their case, describe the interplay between their
understandings of science and theology, and explain why this controversy is
so important to Christians and scientists.
The Counterpoints format gives the participants equal time to defend their
positions and respond to their colleagues. In addition, THREE VIEWS ON
CREATION AND EVOLUTION provides a separate set of scholars to critique from
the worlds of natural science (Walter L. Bradley), biblical studies (Vern S.
Poythress), theology (John Jefferson Davis), and philosophy (General Editor
J.P. Moreland) to critique each presentation in light of their respective
disciplines. Berkeley Law Professor Phillip E. Johnson, author of Defeating
Darwinism by Opening Minds (InterVarsity, 1997), and Stanford scientist
Richard H. Bube conclude with observations from either side of the debate.
The intense yet congenial discussion, moderated by some of the finest
Christian minds, provides ample evidence to help readers reach a scriptural
verdict.
